Dyson hair dryer, quick, silent and easy! When I first spotted the Dyson hairdryer about a year ago, I was intrigued. It had to do with the funky design of this hair dryer and the fact that it looked so completely different than any other. End last year, I got invited to a Dyson Hair event at the well known Toni Kalin hair salon in Antwerp and thankfully I was free that day, so I jumped on the train and got all excited during the traveling. I was super curious to see how this spacy looking hair dryer would perform.
Before I start my review, let me tell you this. I have been to quite some events. I have received quite some pretty things. And most of all, I know a little bit how marketing and PR works. Which means that they can tell me all about this amazing great new anti-wrinkle cream and that fantastic hair tool, this baby ain’t buying it until she tries it herself.
After a blitzy brushing demonstration on three beautiful models, the invitees got the possibility to get their hair done. I did wash my hair the morning of the event but didn’t brush it, which resulted in ‘wet dog’ hair. Yep, it was planned as I was curious to see how the Dyson would handle that. The hairstylist used a medium size rounded brush and started to brush my dry hair with the Dyson, which made me even more curious because I didn’t think that would give a great result. Out came my inner Poirot as I watched her closely doing her thing and slowly my skepticism melted. It was quite a surprise to see how easy my not that beachy waves got transformed in shiny straight hair.
It’s one thing to get a blow dry by a professional, it’s another to (try to) do the same at home. Happy as a four year old with a new toy I couldn’t wait to play with my funky hair dryer at home. I got the purple one, which makes me feel a Cosmic Girl!
Now this dryer is from another level. It doesn’t look like any other dryer and I can assure you, neither does it feel. For me, it took some practice to get the hang of it, as I’m so used to a ‘normal’ hair dryer shape.
Don’t think I didn’t hear you sighing ‘bloody hell this is an expensive hair dryer’. (399 Euros) I know, I thought exactly the same at first. But than I started thinking… I wash my hair every other day. That doesn’t mean I brush them straight every other day but I do use a hair dryer about 4 times a week. I have shoes in my closet from 300 Euros which I have worn maybe twice. I still have clothes in my closet with the price tag on… in case I loose those extra 2 kg… So I’m not really sure if the Dyson isn’t worth its’ money. After all, I use it quite often and it is a great hair dryer. I will tell you now why.
- Hair protection: this hair dryer doesn’t dry out or damage the hair like other too hot ones do. You can feel that the air is more of a mid-warm. The heat is adjustable from lukewarm to warm. Not extra hot.
- Three air speeds: all three are powerful.
- More silent: gone are the days that you couldn’t have a conversation with your boyfriend while brushing your hair.
- Light weight: in my case a super plus. As you know I suffer from back problems and holding your arms up while brushing your hair doesn’t make that any better. I love the fact that this one is not that heavy.
- More sleep: the Dyson is quick and the result is good. Which means that I can turn over once again in the morning as I don’t have to brush my hair during 30 minutes and than use my velcro curlers to finish the look.
- Magnetic: the styling attachments are magnetically clicked on. I like that.
- It comes with a non-slip mat and storage hanger.
- Makes me sing Jamiroquai songs: I know, that is really not important but as I’m a huge fan, it’s a nice little extra! I’m just a cosmic girl…from another galaxy!
I haven’t tried the diffuser for curls yet, but as soon as I get tired of walking in PJ’s all day and make the decision to get all glammed up again, I will do! Let’s see if my wet doggy hair transform into Ibiza chic beach waves!

Brand of the Month: ClarinsDespite this leading French luxury skin care brand being all around before I was even born, I didn’t try much out before last month. A premium selection of Clarins products, adapted to the special needs of my mixed skin which is prone to dehydration, arrived at my doorstep. This has been my daily routine for the last couple of weeks.
In the morning, I start on a cleansed face with the newly reformulated Double Serum. The dual-chamber bottle contains a water-based as well as an oil-based serum, hence its name, which are mixed together into one gel-like fluid through the pump system. This pump is cleverly designed, by a simple twist you can customize the dispensed amount of serum, so there’s no spillage of the precious content. This skin treatment infuses the skin with over 20 anti-aging plant extracts and it claims to reactivate the skin’s vital while also fighting stress, aging effects, and pollution. The end result is a smoother, more resilient, radiant and firmer skin. I warm a small amount onto my fingertips and gently press it all over my face and neck. It’s lightweight, non-sticky and it absorbs super-fast. It leaves my skin feeling fresh and slightly tightened. Its hydration power is a big plus, the rather strong scent, though not unpleasant, a small minus. It’s good to know that Double Serum can be mixed with my day cream to save some time on busy mornings!
Next is the silky-smooth Extra-Firming Eye Wrinkle Smoothing Cream. The comforting formula contains nourishing essential rose wax and blackcurrant to smooth fine lines.
Then comes the soft-pink Multi-Active Jour, Clarins’ antioxidant day cream which has been designed to help minimize fine lines, boost radiance and to fight the effects of daytime stress. The lightweight formula is ideal for my T-zone, during the course of the day I feel that my cheek area could do with a tad more nourishment though.
During this holiday season, I might have enjoyed the festive dishes and drinks a bit too much, and not only my waist line, but also my skin now pays the price. This is why BB Skin Detox Fluid comes in handy. This formula has been designed for congested skin, caused by partying, overindulging and smoky and polluted environments. Does this sound strange to you? Our skin has an internal detox system and the capacity to restore its balance, but life in excess can wear it out. As toxins build up, our skin becomes visibly stressed. BB Skin Detox Fluid contains green coffee, known for its detoxifying properties. 3 to 5 drops of this highly concentrated booster, mixed with your day cream or mask, is said to help revive radiance of a dull complexion and to replump the skin. I’ve done this for one week, but if needed you can use it longer.
I started my nighttime routine with Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil , a hydrating treatment oil which restores vitality and radiance to dehydrated skin. It contains patchouli (love the scent!) and blue orchid extracts, as well as hazelnut oil to softens and smooth the skin, to seal in moisture and to help minimizes the appearance of fine lines. To help the oil sink in, it’s best to pat it onto still moist skin right after your toning lotion, avoiding the eye area. Make sure to keep the clear glass jar in the dark to protect the oil from oxidation. Then I apply the Extra-Firming Eye Wrinkle Smoothing Cream onto my eye-area and next I blend some Double Serum with the Multi-Active Nuit, Clarins night cream for normal to mixed skin types. Teasel extract provides revitalizing and anti-aging action and organic California Poppy extract helps the skin look smooth, toned and rested by morning. I like the texture of this night cream, although it’s thick and creamy it absorbs well and it doesn’t leave a greasy film. The faint, fresh-flowery scent wear off quickly, which is also great.
In general I can say I’m happy with this trial. My skin feels soft and is visibly smooth, toned and healthy. The anti-ageing claims are harder to confirm with the naked eye just after four weeks, but I’m going to finish these products anyway. Also, I would have preferred some products to be less scented. My personal favorite? That’s Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil, with Multi-Active Nuit as a close runner up.
A nice introduction to Clarins,

Masks to pamper and take care of your skin!
II love face masks, apart from being good for my skin I find it a relaxing routine too. These are some masks recently tested and approved by yours truly.
You wouldn’t think your morning routing might be mask time, would you? Well, think again, here comes Clinique Pep-Start™ Double Bubble Purifying Mask. If you have two minutes to spare in the morning, this refreshing pink gel mask will give your skin a pep rush. I love the bright green tube packaging, it guarantees a quick and mess-free application. Applied in a thin layer all over my face (except for my eye area), the gel starts to transform into tiny little bubbles after about ten seconds, freeing my skin of impurities. I leave it on for two minutes, then I add water to make it lather to gently deep-cleanse, I rinse and pat dry. Voilà, I’m ready to start the day and my morning routine with fresh and radiant skin.
If you have four minutes to spare in the morning, you might want to try Maria Galland 2 Creamy Soft Mask. This off-white cream has a smooth texture that goes on effortlessly. The cleansing formula has been developed for all skin types lacking freshness and purity.
If you have dry skin, Maria Galland recommend to mix this mask with a small amount of moisturizer. Its base is natural clay, combined with toning ivy extract and strawberry extract, which has an invigorating effect and revives the complexion. It is further enriched with vitamin B6, to help our skins’ cell renewal and with allantoin, which has soothing properties. This mask is to be applied all over your face and rinsed off with cool water. Before my morning run, I follow with Maria Galland 193 Protective Care For The Face SPF 30. This is an anti-ageing moisturizer with repairing and antioxidant properties and high sun care protection. It quickly sinks into my skin and, feeling well-protected, I slip on my running shoes and off I go.
Sóley Organics, an Icelandic brand created by the actress Sóley Elíasdóttir, produces certified organic skin care products made with handpicked wild Icelandic herbs and local spring water. All products are very skin-friendly and free from parabens, preservatives, artificial colors and fragrances or any other chemical agents. I got my hands on steinEY, a mineral mask with volcanic clay from Eyjafjallajökull (does this ring a bell? yes, it’s the volcano that erupted a few years ago, wreaking havoc on European air traffic for days), enriched with birch extract. It has not only been designed to remove dead skin cells, toxins and impurities, it also balances the skin, stimulates cell renewal, strengthens tissues and reduces the signs of aging. As instructed I mix ½ teaspoon of steinEY mineral mask with ½ teaspoon of water and apply it to my pre-cleansed face and neck. I leave it on for 10 minutes, it dries out and turns light grey, then I rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat my skin dry. (Be careful, the clay might stain your clothes and towels). It didn’t do much for my drier cheek area, but this mask worked wonders for my oily T-zone. This area of my face now has a weekly date with steinEY !
For their new peel-off masks Glamglow teamed up with Saban’s Power Rangers. I tried Glamglow Gravitymud Firming Treatment Goldar, designed to cleanse, firm, lift, tight and tone the skin. I have to apply a generous layer onto my face, avoiding my brows, hairline and eye and lip area. The gold-colored substance has a fresh coconut scent to it and, with a foundation brush, application is easy. It takes 30 minutes to dry out, I grab one of the edges and it lifts off in one solid peace. There was a tiny bit that got into my hairline, but not to worry, the remains wash away with warm water. Is Goldar a mask with true superpowers? My skin doesn’t look lifted and more firm than before and to be honest, I didn’t expect it either since I haven’t yet discovered a mask that can really do that. On the bright side, the clay in the formula gently and thoroughly cleansed my skin, it feels soft and looks toned. On the other hand, I’ve used up almost have of the contents of the 30g tube, which makes it a rather expensive treatment. For the Power Rangers fans, this mask is also available in Rita Repulsa, which is green-colored as you might expect.
