Spray, set, ready, go… three setting sprays to discover!

If you want your artfully applied makeup to last throughout the day (or night), a setting spray is one of your best allies. Primer is the other one, should you wonder. The composition of these sprays usually is quite uncomplicated: a water-based formula, featuring some moisturizing agents like glycerin and propanediol (which also promotes the absorption of other beneficial ingredients, often botanicals) some oil-based ingredients and a solvent like pentylene glycol, which is also a skin-replenishing agent, sometimes perfume and a preservative. Not a very long ingredients list compared to other skin care products, but these sprays are effective nevertheless. Just spray a mist over your freshly applied makeup to fix it or use it during the day for a moisturizing boost of freshness. These are the ones I recently tried.

For fans of cruelty-free and vegan cosmetics, there’s Make-Up Setting Spray by The Body Shop. The formula is free of mineral oils and perfume, it contains moisturizing castor oil and hydrating, community trade Aloe vera leaf juice panthenol and vitamin E. It suits all skin types and sensitive skin.

Photo Perfecting is BE Creative’s makeup setting spray. It comes in a white plastic 50ml spray bottle with a sturdy cap, which makes it a mess-free travel companion. It also features castor oil and botanical extracts from cassava root and mimosa tree bark. I like the fact that it only has the slightest amount of perfume in it, which gives it a barely-there fresh scent.

When it comes to hydration you need to make sure to check out French skincare brand Novexpert. This hydrating setting mist is soothing and therefore especially suited for sensitive skin.

Last, but not least, I’ve tried Collagen Molecular Spray by Collistar. Besides being a setting spray and a moisturizer, it claims to have anti-wrinkle and firming properties. Don’t think you will be spraying collagen particles into the deep layers of your skin, that just isn’t physically possible.

Sprayed on top of your skin, collagen helps to moisturize and smooth it and it provides a film that slightly firms the skin, although this is only temporary. The formula contains hydrating glycerin and vitamin C, which promotes healthy skin and cell renewal.

To set your makeup,
Peggy
