Brand of the Month: Clarins
[su_dropcap]D[/su_dropcap]espite this leading French luxury skin care brand being all around before I was even born, I didn’t try much out before last month. A premium selection of Clarins products, adapted to the special needs of my mixed skin which is prone to dehydration, arrived at my doorstep. This has been my daily routine for the last couple of weeks.
In the morning, I start on a cleansed face with the newly reformulated Double Serum. The dual-chamber bottle contains a water-based as well as an oil-based serum, hence its name, which are mixed together into one gel-like fluid through the pump system. This pump is cleverly designed, by a simple twist you can customize the dispensed amount of serum, so there’s no spillage of the precious content. This skin treatment infuses the skin with over 20 anti-aging plant extracts and it claims to reactivate the skin’s vital while also fighting stress, aging effects, and pollution. The end result is a smoother, more resilient, radiant and firmer skin. I warm a small amount onto my fingertips and gently press it all over my face and neck. It’s lightweight, non-sticky and it absorbs super-fast. It leaves my skin feeling fresh and slightly tightened. Its hydration power is a big plus, the rather strong scent, though not unpleasant, a small minus. It’s good to know that Double Serum can be mixed with my day cream to save some time on busy mornings!
Next is the silky-smooth Extra-Firming Eye Wrinkle Smoothing Cream. The comforting formula contains nourishing essential rose wax and blackcurrant to smooth fine lines.
Then comes the soft-pink Multi-Active Jour, Clarins’ antioxidant day cream which has been designed to help minimize fine lines, boost radiance and to fight the effects of daytime stress. The lightweight formula is ideal for my T-zone, during the course of the day I feel that my cheek area could do with a tad more nourishment though.
During this holiday season, I might have enjoyed the festive dishes and drinks a bit too much, and not only my waist line, but also my skin now pays the price. This is why Booster Detox comes in handy. This formula has been designed for congested skin, caused by partying, overindulging and smoky and polluted environments. Does this sound strange to you? Our skin has an internal detox system and the capacity to restore its balance, but life in excess can wear it out. As toxins build up, our skin becomes visibly stressed.Booster Detox contains green coffee, known for its detoxifying properties. 3 to 5 drops of this highly concentrated booster, mixed with your day cream or mask, is said to help revive radiance of a dull complexion and to replump the skin. I’ve done this for one week, but if needed you can use it longer.
I started my nighttime routine with Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil , a hydrating treatment oil which restores vitality and radiance to dehydrated skin. It contains patchouli (love the scent!) and blue orchid extracts, as well as hazelnut oil to softens and smooth the skin, to seal in moisture and to help minimizes the appearance of fine lines. To help the oil sink in, it’s best to pat it onto still moist skin right after your toning lotion, avoiding the eye area. Make sure to keep the clear glass jar in the dark to protect the oil from oxidation. Then I apply the Extra-Firming Eye Wrinkle Smoothing Cream onto my eye-area and next I blend some Double Serum with the Multi-Active Nuit, Clarins night cream for normal to mixed skin types. Teasel extract provides revitalizing and anti-aging action and organic California Poppy extract helps the skin look smooth, toned and rested by morning. I like the texture of this night cream, although it’s thick and creamy it absorbs well and it doesn’t leave a greasy film. The faint, fresh-flowery scent wear off quickly, which is also great.
In general I can say I’m happy with this trial. My skin feels soft and is visibly smooth, toned and healthy. The anti-ageing claims are harder to confirm with the naked eye just after four weeks, but I’m going to finish these products anyway. Also, I would have preferred some products to be less scented. My personal favorite? That’s Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil, with Multi-Active Nuit as a close runner up.
A nice introduction to Clarins,
