To hydrate or not to hydrate? That’s never the question.

To hydrate or not to hydrate? That’s never the question.
To hydrate or not to hydrate? Hydration is key!

Many beauty bunnies seem to believe that our skin is especially prone to dryness during summertime. When I consider the skin condition of those which sat in my make-up chair over the last weeks, it’s clear that winter days have an even more drying effect on our skin. Exposure to cold weather and icy wind outside, combined with warm, bone-dry air inside, there you have it: dry skin with an uncomfortable feel, visible fine lines and rough patches.

Hydration is the magic key here, from the inside as well as from the outside. My advice is simple and you’ve probably heard it a million times before: drink lots of water and use a good moisturizer. A radiant skin is a well-hydrated one! These are some moisturizers I’ve personally tested.

The Galénic Aqua Infini collection is all about hydration. The hero active ingredient is Stone Flower extract, also known as Jericho Rose. This so-called resurrection plant, native to the deserts of North-, Central and South America, can survive extreme dehydration, even over months or years, by storing the morning dew in its cells. Aqua Infini Emulsion Fraîcheur has been designed to hydrate, mattify and protect normal to mixed skin types. I like the fresh feel of this ultra-light emulsion.

In need of more mattifying power? Then you might like Glamglow Volcasmic Matte Glow Moisturizer. I’d describe it as a moisturizer with an edge. It has a rather thick consistency and upon application it feels somewhat sticky, but don’t let this put you off. You only need to use a small amount, and once absorbed it nicely mattifies and minimalizes enlarged pores. Great for oily skin types.

Clinique Moisture Surge 72-Hour Auto-Replenishing Hydrator is a go-to for those in need of serious hydration, combined with an ultra-light texture. This day-and-night hydration powerhouse has the same pinkish gel-like texture of its iconic predecessor, but with a thicker consistency. It instantly sinks in, leaving the skin soft, smooth and well-hydrated with no greasy feel whatsoever. The only minus to me is its heavy jar, because I constantly try to reduce the weight of my pro-kit! Note to self: when I win the lottery, I’ll recruit a muscled assistant to carry my kit for me.

Estée Lauder Day Wear Multi-Protection Anti-Oxidant 24H-Moisture Creme SPF 15 defends against signs of premature aging an provides and intense surge of moisture that lasts upto 24H.  With the Estée Lauder proven Anti-Oxidant Complex and Broad Spectrum sunscreen, it reduces the first signs of aging, like dullness and fine, dry lines.  I like the gel-cream texture of this product but once again, the minus is the quite heavy jar, so this product holds house in my bathroom cabinet for personal use.

M.A.C Cosmetics Prep + Prime Fix + Spray -available in 4 scents- is a lightweight water mist that gently soothes and refreshes skin and finishes makeup. At work, I tend to use it when I’ve used too much power -which can happen when doing makeup on men- or during the day as a refreshment for my model’s skin.

Make sure you hydrate your skin, from the inside and from the outside. After all, it’s the largest organ you have, take good care of it!

For beautiful skin,
Peggy
