How to create fuller looking lips without injections
Fuller lips without injections

These days, it’s all about full lips. I do understand, full lips are sexy, full lips are glamorous. But what to do if you are not blessed like Angelina Jolie and/or afraid of the needle? Here are 5 tips to create a full(er) pout.

1. Make sure your lips are in perfect condition before anything. Give them a little scrub -M.A.C. has some great ones- to remove loose skin and moisturize them with a nourishing lip balm like Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Lip Balm.

2. The return of the lip pencil. You might get a nineties flashback but you can’t achieve the full pout without. You can go for a flesh colour or in the exact same colour as you lipstick. Back into or let’s say new in (insta)fashion is a darker liner, thankfully not 4 shades darker but one tone up. Overdraw the lip line. Don’t worry, I don’t mean you need to go way out but a delicate line drawn just over your natural lip line will do the trick. The size of your pencil point is actually perfect.

3.  Fill in the lips with the lipstick. Use a lip brush to do this, you will be able to work more precisely.

4. Highlight the cupid’s bow. It really gives the illusion of wider lips.Use a cream instead of a powder if your lips have already kissed a lot. You don’t want to enhance the little fine lines nor the mustache!

5. Stay away from totally matte lips. Use a high-shine lip gloss or a plumping gloss. If you’re not into gloss you can opt to dab a little bit in the center of the lips. After all, it’s one of the best tricks to make those lips look fuller.

Quick & easy curls with Remington

Remington Keratin Protect Curling Wand, making curls has never been easier!

[su_dropcap style=”light”]A[/su_dropcap]s a makeup artist I’m also often asked to do the hair styling when I work on fashion shoots or commercial campaigns. Time is money which means I never have enough time, roughly 1 to 1,5 hour for hair and makeup, but still I need to make sure the model or celebrity looks great. Which means I need to have the right tools to make my rushy makeup life a bit easier.

A little while ago I worked as a makeup artist at the Remington new launches event where I got lucky enough to go home with a nice goodie, the Keratin Protect Curling Wand. I was eager to try it out as it promises bouncy healthy looking curls.

This curling wand offers 5 temperature settings, from 150 to 210°C, so you can adapt the heat according to the hair you’re working with. The barrel is at its smallest point 19 and at its widest point 28mm, you can either opt for smaller or bigger curls. On top, it has an advanced ceramic coating infused with keratin and almond oil to protect the hair as much as possible. It comes with a heat protecting glove to make sure you don’t burn your fingers.

What’s my verdict? This curling wand is fast, really fast! It is so easy to use, it doesn’t take long and the result is great! In the past, I never curled my own hair as it took me too long to get a decent result and I could never get the back of my head done properly but since I’ve got this baby, sometimes I go through life as curly Peggy. Have a look!

Soft, natural and healthy looking curls for Peggy!

Not only is it fast and easy, it also makes my hair look shiny.I’m really pleased with this hair styling tool and I got super curious about another tool Remington has launched recently, the Keratin Protect Straight Brush. I believe this would be another great asset for my pro-kit! Is it Christmas already?

What do you think of my lovely curls?

Looking fresh and beautiful with less makeup!

Fresh and beautiful with a tiny bit of makeup!

[su_dropcap style=”simple”]W[/su_dropcap]hen I give workshops, clients often tell me they don’t have time to ‘do all of that’ in the morning. They have children to take care of, they rather stay 15 minutes longer in bed, at work nobody cares anyway, are a few of the ‘excuses’ I get to hear many times. But still, they are following a workshop makeup which to me can mean only two things: they see it as a way to socialize or they have a genuine interest in makeup. Well let me tell you, you don’t have to do everything or not even anything of the techniques I explain neither do you have to follow all the steps.

If you want to use just a tiny amount of makeup and only spend 5 minutes every morning on your beauty routine that’s perfectly fine. The next pictures will show you that a little bit goes a long way.

Nathalie is not wearing any foundation, however I gave her skin -after cleansing- a nice massage with the Embryolisse Lait-Crème. A little amount Smashbox Studio Skin 24H concealer underneath they eyes to freshen up that area. On her eyes I’ve used a Dior Metalizer and her brows are combed with the Anastasia Beverly Hills brow gel. The lips got a little bit of the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour lip balm.

A smile is the most beautiful thing a person can wear. If you feel prettier with a little bit of makeup go for it!

Brand of the Month: Clarins

Brand of the Month: Clarins

[su_dropcap]D[/su_dropcap]espite this leading French luxury skin care brand being all around before I was even born, I didn’t try much out before last month. A premium selection of Clarins products, adapted to the special needs of my mixed skin which is prone to dehydration, arrived at my doorstep. This has been my daily routine for the last couple of weeks.

Clarins, skincare, anti-ageing, Multi-Active Jour, Multi-Active Nuit, Extra-Firming Eye Wrinkle Smoothing Cream, Double Serum, Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil, This Is Peggy, review, makeup artist, Peggy Timmermans

In the morning, I start on a cleansed face with the newly reformulated Double Serum. The dual-chamber bottle contains a water-based as well as an oil-based serum, hence its name, which are mixed together into one gel-like fluid through the pump system. This pump is cleverly designed, by a simple twist you can customize the dispensed amount of serum, so there’s no spillage of the precious content. This skin treatment infuses the skin with over 20 anti-aging plant extracts and it claims to reactivate the skin’s vital while also fighting stress, aging effects, and pollution. The end result is a smoother, more resilient, radiant and firmer skin. I warm a small amount onto my fingertips and gently press it all over my face and neck. It’s lightweight, non-sticky and it absorbs super-fast. It leaves my skin feeling fresh and slightly tightened. Its hydration power is a big plus, the rather strong scent, though not unpleasant, a small minus. It’s good to know that Double Serum can be mixed with my day cream to save some time on busy mornings!

Next is the silky-smooth Extra-Firming Eye Wrinkle Smoothing Cream. The comforting formula contains nourishing essential rose wax and blackcurrant to smooth fine lines.

Then comes the soft-pink Multi-Active Jour, Clarins’ antioxidant day cream which has been designed to help minimize fine lines, boost radiance and to fight the effects of daytime stress. The lightweight formula is ideal for my T-zone, during the course of the day I feel that my cheek area could do with a tad more nourishment though.

During this holiday season, I might have enjoyed the festive dishes and drinks a bit too much, and not only my waist line, but also my skin now pays the price. This is why Booster Detox comes in handy. This formula has been designed for congested skin, caused by partying, overindulging and smoky and polluted environments. Does this sound strange to you? Our skin has an internal detox system and the capacity to restore its balance, but life in excess can wear it out. As toxins build up, our skin becomes visibly stressed.Booster Detox contains green coffee, known for its detoxifying properties. 3 to 5 drops of this highly concentrated booster, mixed with your day cream or mask, is said to help revive radiance of a dull complexion and to replump the skin. I’ve done this for one week, but if needed you can use it longer.

Clarins, skincare, anti-ageing, Multi-Active Jour, Multi-Active Nuit, Extra-Firming Eye Wrinkle Smoothing Cream, Double Serum, Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil, This Is Peggy, review, makeup artist, Peggy Timmermans

I started my nighttime routine with Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil , a hydrating treatment oil which restores vitality and radiance to dehydrated skin. It contains patchouli (love the scent!) and blue orchid extracts, as well as hazelnut oil to softens and smooth the skin, to seal in moisture and to help minimizes the appearance of fine lines. To help the oil sink in, it’s best to pat it onto still moist skin right after your toning lotion, avoiding the eye area. Make sure to keep the clear glass jar in the dark to protect the oil from oxidation. Then I apply the Extra-Firming Eye Wrinkle Smoothing Cream onto my eye-area and next I blend some Double Serum with the Multi-Active Nuit, Clarins night cream for normal to mixed skin types. Teasel extract provides revitalizing and anti-aging action and organic California Poppy extract helps the skin look smooth, toned and rested by morning. I like the texture of this night cream, although it’s thick and creamy it absorbs well and it doesn’t leave a greasy film. The faint, fresh-flowery scent wear off quickly, which is also great.

In general I can say I’m happy with this trial. My skin feels soft and is visibly smooth, toned and healthy. The anti-ageing claims are harder to confirm with the naked eye just after four weeks, but I’m going to finish these products anyway. Also, I would have preferred some products to be less scented. My personal favorite? That’s Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil, with Multi-Active Nuit as a close runner up.

A nice introduction to Clarins,
Peggy

Supersonic with Dyson

Dyson hair dryer, quick, silent and easy!

[su_dropcap style=”light”]W[/su_dropcap]hen I first spotted the Dyson hairdryer about a year ago, I was intrigued. It had to do with the funky design of this hair dryer and the fact that it looked so completely different than any other. End last year, I got invited to a Dyson Hair event at the well known Toni Kalin hair salon in Antwerp and thankfully I was free that day, so I jumped on the train and got all excited during the traveling. I was super curious to see how this spacy looking hair dryer would perform.

Before I start my review, let me tell you this. I have been to quite some events. I have received quite some pretty things. And most of all, I know a little bit how marketing and PR works. Which means that they can tell me all about this amazing great new anti-wrinkle cream and that fantastic hair tool, this baby ain’t buying it until she tries it herself.

Dyson, hair dryer, haircare, brushing, review, This Is Peggy, makeup artist, Peggy Timmermans

After a blitzy brushing demonstration on three beautiful models, the invitees got the possibility to get their hair done. I did wash my hair the morning of the event but didn’t brush it, which resulted in ‘wet dog’ hair. Yep, it was planned as I was curious to see how the Dyson would handle that. The hairstylist used a medium size rounded brush and started to brush my dry hair with the Dyson, which made me even more curious because I didn’t think that would give a great result. Out came my inner Poirot as I watched her closely doing her thing and slowly my skepticism melted. It was quite a surprise to see how easy my not that beachy waves got transformed in shiny straight hair.

It’s one thing to get a blow dry by a professional, it’s another to (try to) do the same at home. Happy as a four year old with a new toy I couldn’t wait to play with my funky hair dryer at home. I got the purple one, which makes me feel a Cosmic Girl!

Now this dryer is from another level. It doesn’t look like any other dryer and I can assure you, neither does it feel. For me, it took some practice to get the hang of it, as I’m so used to a ‘normal’ hair dryer shape.

Don’t think I didn’t hear you sighing ‘bloody hell this is an expensive hair dryer’. (399 Euros) I know, I thought exactly the same at first. But than I started thinking… I wash my hair every other day. That doesn’t mean I brush them straight every other day but I do use a hair dryer about 4 times a week. I have shoes in my closet from 300 Euros which I have worn maybe twice. I still have clothes in my closet with the price tag on… in case I loose those extra 2 kg… So I’m not really sure if the Dyson isn’t worth its’ money. After all, I use it quite often and it is a great hair dryer. I will tell you now why.

  • Hair protection: this hair dryer doesn’t dry out or damage the hair like other too hot ones do. You can feel that the air is more of a mid-warm. The heat is adjustable from lukewarm to warm. Not extra hot.
  • Three air speeds: all three are powerful.
  • More silent: gone are the days that you couldn’t have a conversation with your boyfriend while brushing your hair.
  • Light weight: in my case a super plus. As you know I suffer from back problems and holding your arms up while brushing your hair doesn’t make that any better. I love the fact that this one is not that heavy.
  • More sleep: the Dyson is quick and the result is good. Which means that I can turn over once again in the morning as I don’t have to brush my hair during 30 minutes and than use my velcro curlers to finish the look.
  • Magnetic: the styling attachments are magnetically clicked on. I like that.
  • It comes with a non-slip mat and storage hanger.
  • Makes me sing Jamiroquai songs: I know, that is really not important but as I’m a huge fan, it’s a nice little extra! I’m just a cosmic girl…from another galaxy!

I haven’t tried the diffuser for curls yet, but as soon as I get tired of walking in PJ’s all day and make the decision to get all glammed up again, I will do! Let’s see if my wet doggy hair transform into Ibiza chic beach waves!
